AFGE Local 2280 remains committed to advocating for the employees who serve our nation's veterans and ensuring that the voices of frontline federal workers are heard.

On April 19, 2025, community members gathered in Iron Mountain for the "March for Freedom," an event commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington and Concord. According to local news reports, more than 300 people attended the rally, which included speakers from across the Upper Peninsula. AFGE Local 2280 was represented by Union Steward Wyatt Gibler, who spoke on issues affecting VA employees and the veterans they serve.

As federal workers continue facing uncertainty surrounding staffing levels, workplace rights, and changes impacting the Department of Veterans Affairs, Local 2280 has remained actively engaged in educating the public about how these decisions affect both employees and veteran care.

The participation of Local 2280 at community events reflects our ongoing mission to advocate for safe staffing, quality healthcare services, and a strong workforce dedicated to serving veterans throughout the Upper Peninsula. Our members understand that supporting employees and supporting veterans go hand in hand. When healthcare workers have the resources, staffing, and workplace protections necessary to perform their jobs effectively, veterans receive the quality care they deserve.

Local 2280 appreciates the support shown by community members who continue to stand with federal employees and veterans. We remain committed to working with stakeholders, elected officials, veterans, and community organizations to ensure the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center can continue fulfilling its mission of serving those who served our country.

Together, we will continue advocating for a strong VA, a respected workforce, and the highest standard of care for our veterans.

AFGE Local 2280 – Standing Up for Veterans. Standing Up for Workers.
